Borobudur Entrance Fee 2017 update

As you may have heard, hence you have been googling around the latest information about Borobudur entrance fee, it is true that since May 1st 2017, the officials have raised the rates for entering the UNESCO site, Borobudur Temple, and Prambanan temple as well as Ratu Boko temple. To be short and simple , below are the updated entrance fee for Borobudur in 2017 2018 2019:

Borobudur USD20 USD25 (IDR325K).
Sunrise Borobudur via Manohara Resort IDR380k IDR450k.
Borobudur + Mendut + Pawon USD30.
Prambanan only USD25.
Prambanan + Plaosan + Sojiwan USD30.
Ratu Boko USD25.
Sunset Ratu Boko IDR175k.
Combo ticket for Borobudur and Prambanan USD30 USD40 (IDR520k).

What you should know!
The rates above valid for one adult with international passport, single entry. Rates for adults who bring KTP or KITAS get different rates. See: Tiket masuk Borobudur 2017 terbaru.

International visitors can pay cash in USD or in IDR. International visitors can pay in IDR by cash/card. They no longer accept cash USD. Bring your passport (or the copy of it), they will scan it for registration. [updated Oct 2018].

USD10 discount for international visitors who brings a valid international student ID / ISIC or between 3-10 years old.

The USD10 discount doesn’t apply for sunrise & sunset entry nor Combo ticket for Borobudur and Prambanan. The combo ticket is valid for the next 48 24 hours since purchase, single entry at each temple.

When you purchase the sunrise at Borobudur via Manohara resort, the entrance fee already included the entrance to the temple, torch light and snacks at the resort. Usually the snacks are gone by 8am. Also, if you return the torch light at the lobby, you will get small batik scarf as a gift.

[NEW Update Oct 2018] They have changed the entrance. Now you must go to Manohara Restaurant (Not the resort. The resort is no longer open since June 2018). And the breakfast is way way better now. They don’t serve “lame” snacks anymore. Breakfast is served at the 2nd floor at the restaurant. You still get the scarf if you return the torch light. From the Restaurant to the top of the temple is only 15 minutes walk. Super easy compared to the old route. Click here for the new location of the new entrance.

  1. Thank you for the information 🙂

I’m planning to go visit there next year. Planning to visit Borobudur in the morning to watch the sunrise and Prambanan to watch the sunset on the same day. I got a few questions to ask you:

    1) May I know where can I purchase the combo ticket of Borobudur and Prambanan?
    2) Does the combo ticket allow me to go in early for the sunrise at Borobudur? Or at 6am? Cause I heard if go with the Manohara tour, we’re allowed to go there at 4.45am.
    3) Just for confirmation: the combo ticket is valid for 48 hours upon purchase? Means I can use the ticket to go Borobudur and Prambanan on the same day?

Looking forward to your reply 🙂

    • Hi Jake,

      1. At the ticket office at the entry of the temples.
      2. The combo ticket only allows you to enter the temples at public hour (from 6am). If you want to see the sunrise from inside the temple, you must purchase the entrance ticket at Manohara resort (the resort located next to Borobudur temple).
      3. Yes correct you can use within the same day until it expires (the next day, end of the day, after purchase day).

    • Hi Dorothy. I couldn’t remember. I don’t think they have the combo ticket for Ratu Boko and Borobudur. At Ratu Boko entrance, they sell a combo ticket for Ratu Boko and Prambanan (not Ratu Boko – Borobudur). Most people go to Borobudur for the sunrise. Ratu Boko / Prambanan for sunset.

  5. Hey! Very helpful article. Can you please update your article to reflect it’s the entrance at the manohara resto, not the Manohara hotel? Otherwise it would not show up on google maps.

  6. Is it okay to rent a motorbike and ride to Borobudur & Prambanan? Is the road relatively safe (I know it’s Indonesia)? I rode in Bali and Surabaya, as well as the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam?

Also, is it safe to park at these facilities? Thank you.
